Over time, ceramic fiber can develop gaps from shrinkage, which may decrease its ability to retain heat and resulting in furnace downtime, costly maintenance and lost production. Where as, MAFTEC™ does not change on a molecular level until it melts at 3362°F (1850°C).

IMPRESSIVE INSULATING QUALITIES
MAFTEC™ has very low thermal conductivity in comparison with commonly used high-heat insulation materials. MAFTEC’s uniform crystal composition contains significant dead-air space between the structures—limiting heat conductivity by preventing heat transport between trapped air spaces. MAFTEC™ also blocks radiant heat transmission, preventing significant amounts of infrared heat from passing through the material.
MAFTEC TM Blanket is made from pure mullite fibre only, needled on both sides, and contains no binder or other added constituent. It can be used at continuous operating temperatures up to 1600°C, under oxidizing, neutral or slightly gas-rich conditions, retaining its original toughness, strength and soft, fibrous structure after extended use at this temperature. MAFTEC Blanket is more resistant to acid and alkaline solutions than conventional alumino-silicate fiber blankets. Being virtually free of shot, it has exceptionally good thermal insulation characteristics.
